Blue Lagoon, Comino: Access, Swimming & Boat Trips

Planning a Blue Lagoon visit? Understand the free landing pass, boat-tour bookings, swimming stops and how to combine the lagoon with Comino’s coast.

Before you go

Your boat booking and the Blue Lagoon landing pass are separate. If you intend to spend time ashore, check the official access system before you travel.

The Blue Lagoon is often the first place people look up when planning a Comino trip. Its bright water makes a memorable setting, but the most useful question is what kind of visit you want: swimming from a boat, spending time ashore, or seeing the lagoon as part of a wider coastal trip.

Do you need a Blue Lagoon landing pass?

The official Blue Lagoon access system provides a free QR-code landing pass for timed visits ashore. A boat-tour ticket does not replace that pass. Check the official access FAQs for current rules, exemptions and availability, and choose access that fits the trip you have booked.

Keep the access confirmation available on your phone. If you are unsure whether your planned stop involves going ashore, ask the crew before reserving a pass. The distinction between a boat stop and a landing is useful when comparing tour descriptions.

You can also stay aboard and swim from the boat during our swimming stop. Going ashore is optional. Read our step-by-step free landing-pass guide if you would like to disembark.

Swimming from a boat or spending time on land?

These are different experiences. A boat-based stop can make the water the focus of your day. Time ashore gives you a chance to look around, but it also means keeping track of boarding instructions and the return time.

Ask what the selected departure offers and follow the crew’s instructions for entering and leaving the water. A beautiful bay does not guarantee identical swimming conditions on every date. Bring your own essentials and confirm any equipment you expect to use.

Blue Lagoon or Crystal Lagoon?

You do not have to think of them as competing destinations. The Blue Lagoon is the familiar postcard view; the Crystal Lagoon is another part of Comino’s limestone coast that can add variety to a boat trip.

When comparing tours, look at the whole experience: departure point, time on the water, swimming opportunities and sightseeing. A longer list of place names is less helpful than a clear explanation of how the day works.

When should you visit?

Choose a departure that fits your plans and the available dates. An earlier start may suit a full day of activities; an afternoon trip can suit a slower morning. No departure can guarantee an empty lagoon, especially when many visitors are travelling at the same time.

Use the booking calendar for actual availability. Avoid choosing a tour solely on a claim that one hour always avoids crowds.

Book a trip with clear expectations

Our shared tours leave from Ċirkewwa, Mellieħa. Check the meeting information and available departures, then read the inclusions and cancellation terms in Bókun. Keep your tour confirmation and any separate landing pass together so you have both ready on the day.
