Before you go
A boat tour suits a day focused on swimming and coastal sights; a ferry suits an independent visit on land. Decide which experience you want before choosing transport.
Comino sits between Malta and Gozo, but planning a visit is about more than picking an island on a map. A beach day, a coastal boat trip and a walk ashore can involve very different transport and timing. Start with what you want to do, then build your day around it.
Boat tour or ferry: which suits your day?
Choose a shared boat tour if your priorities are time on the water, coastal scenery and swimming stops chosen by a crew. You travel with other guests and return with the same trip. A ferry is a transport service: you arrange your own time ashore and check the return journey yourself.
Our shared tours depart from Ċirkewwa in Mellieħa. Check the meeting instructions in your confirmation; do not assume that every boat leaves from the same boarding point. If you want to explore independently, allow for walking, sun exposure and the time needed to return to your boat.
What should you see around Comino?
The Blue Lagoon is the island’s best-known bay. The Crystal Lagoon offers another perspective on the coast, while Santa Maria Bay and San Niklaw Bay help put the wider island into context. Sea caves and natural rock formations add a sightseeing element to a boat trip.
Treat these as places to understand, rather than a checklist every departure must complete. Weather, sea conditions and the product you book affect the route. Ask the crew about any landmark that is especially important to you.
How much time should you allow?
Separate the tour duration from the length of your whole outing. You also need time to get to Ċirkewwa, find the boat and return to your accommodation. Leave space around the trip rather than booking another activity immediately after the advertised return.
Morning, afternoon and sunset departures offer different ways to fit the journey into your holiday. Availability and duration vary, so use the booking calendar for your travel date instead of relying on a timetable copied into a guide.
Prepare before you travel
Bring a towel, swimwear, drinking water and sun protection. Keep your phone and booking confirmation in a secure bag. If you want to spend time ashore at the Blue Lagoon, check the separate access arrangements described in our Blue Lagoon guide.
Travelling with children, limited mobility or a particular swimming requirement? Contact the crew before booking so you can discuss suitability and boarding.
Turn your plan into a day on the water
Once you have chosen the kind of trip you want, compare our shared tours or check available dates and departures. Read the inclusions and route details before paying; a well-chosen trip matters more than trying to fit every bay into one afternoon.
